A Brand Client Story About Hating The Camera
I first met Victoria when I approached her about joining my Hello Yellow headshot project for Young Minds back in 2019 when From Victoria was still located in the Needlemakers building in Lewes. Victoria was one of the first to take part in my original charity fundraiser and that photo is still a favourite of mine but it nearly didn't happen!
It took courage for me to approach Victoria in the first place. I find it super cringey to go up to people I don't know (and even those I do know!) to ask to take their photo, but it's something I'm pushing myself to do more and more as it almost always ends up being worth it!
Victoria's first words are words I hear OFTEN! "I hate having my photo taken!" and/or "Do I have to be in the photos?" Luckily I was able to persuade her (the charity angle always helps) and we captured the shot above, quickly and with minimal fuss which made it easier for her and when I showed her the back of the camera, she was shocked - in a good way! She told me it was "the first time that she liked a photo of herself" which was such a joy to hear! Here's what she posted when she shared it on Instagram...
"I have always tried to avoid having my photo taken, whenever I get asked to have a portrait shot of myself I squirm a little and always end up pulling some goofy faces or seem to close my eyes when the camera clicks!
However, the lovely Bex made me feel so relaxed and within seconds came this lovely photo which I can’t believe I am saying this...but I love it."
Obviously I was delighted! I love that I can help people who are nervous in front of the lens to feel more comfortable and relaxed so they can enjoy the experience AND get great photos for their business.
Ever since then, I've always enjoyed popping in for a browse and a catch up, it's been lovely seeing her shop flourish in its new home on the High Street and of course, I asked if she'd like to participate again in my new headshot fundraiser for Rainbow Trust this year and she said yes :D
We had a lovely morning chatting about Victoria's newest venture into clothing and all of the latest updates and of course, some lovely snuggles with the gorgeous Frankie, From Victoria's resident pet pooch who loves to greet shoppers!
Whilst shooting, we discussed Victoria's challenge of needed new content for her website and social media across the seasons. Although she's excellent at maintaining visibility, posting regularly and has a loyal client base, she acknowledged the challenge of getting featured and standing out when using her (very good) phone shots. I'm thrilled that she has commissioned me to provide seasonal content shoots for From Victoria starting this Winter and even more thrilled that she will include herself in these shoots!
