Time Out (And How It’s Helped My Business)

A Quieter Season

You may have noticed I’ve been a little quieter in my business over the past year.

I’ve taken what I’d call a “quieter season” in Bexphoto, I’ve still been working with my regular clients and taking on selected jobs when asked, but stepping back from marketing and social media to create a bit more breathing space in life.

I didn’t really announce it at the time because there wasn’t anything to announce as such, just a conscious decision to scale things down for a while.

Still Here, Just Quieter

Although I was less visible online, the business was still ticking along behind the scenes. I continued working with my regular clients on their seasonal photography and kept up with networking through Uckfield Chamber of Commerce, my own Sussex Business Club and Henry and Beth’s monthly Netwalks. Staying connected with my clients and fellow business owners meant I could enjoy a slower pace without ever feeling like I’d disappeared.

The Real Reason

With my twins still in primary school, I’ve been very aware that this stage of life won’t last much longer. I wanted to be more present, especially during their final year before they head off to “big school” in September. Having my part-time dental job alongside Bexphoto has given me the flexibility to do exactly that, which I’m incredibly grateful for.

Like many of us juggling work and family life, the past year has also come with its fair share of curveballs – our house move turning into a bit of a rollercoaster (and then stalling completely), plus some significant disruption in my other job which has thankfully now settled with a new manager who we all love. It’s fair to say it’s not been the easiest year to be running at full pace with the business in the background.

What the Space Gave Me

But in a strange way, stepping back has been really valuable.

It’s given me space to think, reset, and make some long-awaited improvements to Bexphoto that I’m genuinely excited about.

My website has had a full overhaul with a new designer and host, improving both the look and the SEO (and I’m completely in love with the colourful new branding background – if you scroll the homepage, you’ll see what I mean!) and I’ve had a brand film created to better show what I do which will be debuting very soon!

Something I’ve Been Wanting to Do for Two Years

I’ve also been developing new packages designed especially for start-ups and small businesses – something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. In fact, if you ask Jo at The Grammar Mamma, she’ll tell you I’ve been talking about this for at least two years! Having someone who believes in your ideas and gently holds you accountable is such a gift in business – and Jo has been exactly that. We’ve even been discussing a collaboration together, so watch this space.

If you’d like to stay sharp with your writing and content while you’re waiting to hear more, Jo runs a brilliant accountability group called Ready, Steady Write – I’ll be signing up myself as soon as the summer is over.

So what does this mean now?

I’m very much back.

I’m starting to open up more availability again for photography sessions, with a slightly refreshed approach. As my children are getting older, I’m able to offer more shorter, focused sessions while still maintaining the high level of care and service I’m known for. I’d always rather limit my availability than compromise on that experience.

If you’ve been thinking about working with me but weren’t quite ready before, this is the perfect time to get in touch. I have very limited availability between now and September, and I’m already booking into the autumn.

There’s also some really exciting work coming up with fellow business owners (including a long-awaited collaboration with my lovely friend Julianne – more on that very soon!)

The Creative Spark Is Well and Truly Back

And finally… yes, I’m absolutely back in that creative headspace again. It’s been really lovely to feel that spark return. I did a recent shoot with my dental team that was equal parts fun and chaos (they’ll happily confirm both) and I remembered exactly why I love this job.

So if you’d like to work together this summer, or want first dibs on autumn sessions, drop me a message.

And if you’ve always secretly wanted a Paris shoot… I might just be persuaded. 😉

Thank You for Being Here

Thank you for being patient with my quieter season. Whether you’ve been following along for years or you’ve just discovered Bexphoto, I’m glad you’re here.

I’ve always believed that the best work comes from a place of genuine enthusiasm and care. I took the time I needed, I’ve made the improvements I’d been dreaming about, and now I’m genuinely excited about what’s ahead.

If you’d like to be part of it – I’d love to hear from you.

Let’s have a natter.
